Your 28-Day Watering Schedule

Days 1–14: Water Twice Daily (Morning & Evening)

  • Drip Irrigation: Run for at least 30 minutes per cycle.
  • Spray Heads: Run the plant zone for at least 20 minutes per cycle.
  • Hand Watering: Use a slow, steady stream at the base of each plant. Focus on soaking the root ball directly rather than wetting the leaves or topsoil.

Days 15–28: Water Once Daily (Morning Only)

  • Drip Irrigation: At least 30 minutes.
  • Spray Heads: At least 20 minutes.
  • Hand Watering: Slowly and thoroughly soak the root zone.

After Day 28:

Transition your plants to your lawn’s regular watering schedule.

Crucial Watering Tips

  • Deep Watering Matters: Quick surface sprinklings only wet the mulch. Water slowly so moisture penetrates deep into the root ball where plants need it most.
  • Adjust for Florida Weather: Reduce or skip watering during heavy rains, soggy soil causes root rot. Conversely, increase monitoring during heatwaves or extreme drought.
  • Overwatering vs. Underwatering: Drooping leaves can signal too much water, not just too little. Check soil moisture 2 inches deep with your finger before adding more water.
  • Mulch vs. Rock: Mulch retains soil moisture. Landscape rock holds heat and causes soil to dry out faster, so rock beds need closer attention during hot periods.

Adjusting Your Irrigation System

Your lawn’s standard watering cycle will not be enough for brand-new plants. You will need to temporarily update the specific zone where new plants were installed, there is no need to water your entire lawn twice a day.

Protecting Your Investment

New plant establishment depends directly on consistent moisture during these initial 28 days. Because environmental factors like drainage, soil quality, and daily weather vary widely across properties, ongoing care and watering are the homeowner’s responsibility once installation is complete.

If you need help adjusting your controller settings, contact Top Lawn Pros, we are always happy to guide you in the right direction!
